Around 1750 brewer Jacobus Liefmans selected these fertile soils of Oudenaarde, where the banks of the river Scheldt provide natural nourishment for unique Liefmans beers. On the taste buds you will find hints of apple and cherries, combined with woody notes, while the aftertaste hints at nuts and dried raisins. Liefmans Fruitesse will keep in the bottle for approximately 18 months and for one year, on tap. This is not really a beer for storage, though, unlike the Liefmans Goudenband or Kriek Brut, which can easily be stored for 10 years. Liefmans is a Belgian brewery which produces oud bruin and other Belgian beers.

Only 250 cases of this were sold in the U.S. this past year, and we’re taking pretty much all of their remaining inventory; the brewery is pulling this from the U.S. market going forward. This mixed-fermentation beer starts with a Flemish brown ale aged on fresh whole cherries, which then gets blended with Until 2007, Liefmans also made an Oud Bruin called Odnar with only 4% ABV. Oud Bruin is also the base beer for the brewery’s kriek (the word is Flemish for “cherry’). Kriek in Belgium can be made from lambic or other base brews. See kriek and lambic.
